As you know, I have made the difficult decision to leave ICANN in March of 2016. While it was not an easy decision, it was the right one. In keeping with our shared commitment to clarity and transparency, I would like to take a moment to share some thoughts behind my decision and reassure you of my dedication on the road ahead.

If you're focused on following the IANA Stewardship Transition and Enhancing ICANN Accountability processes here in Buenos Aires or from your computer at home, I've compiled a quick reference guide of the meetings that may be of interest to you. Please don't hesitate to join in the discussions no matter where you are in the world.

This is the digital age – and I am thankful for living in it. For one, a key benefit of this age that I enjoy is that my friends and I no longer need to "agree to disagree" on trivial but important factual issues over dinner, such as whether there is a difference between lamb or mutton, or whether fish drink water, when we can look it up on our smart phones via the 3G network.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending my second Canadian Internet Forum (CIF), which was held at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Ontario. Though a beautiful venue, in an equally beautiful city, I think CIF may have to look for another room or venue next year on account of extremely high interest and participation.

The room was packed as attendees heard from leaders in business, government, civil society, academia, and the Internet technical community discuss issues vital to the future of the Internet and its governance.

The Internet has finally, and in so many ways, become an integral part of our every day lives. As familiar as we are with it, however, we still need to understand how best to navigate our way in this vast digital territory securely. We all face challenges when trying to understand how to protect ourselves, our families and workplaces, and increasingly, all of our sensitive information from Internet attacks.

Allow me to say this clearly and succinctly – ICANN is not a global regulator of Internet content, nor should the 2013 Registry Accreditation Agreement (RAA) be interpreted in such a way as to put us in that role. Our mission is to coordinate, at the overall level, the global Internet's systems of unique identifiers, and in particular, to ensure the stable and secure operation of the Internet's unique identifiers. ICANN was never granted, nor was it ever intended that ICANN be granted, the authority to act as a regulator of Internet content.

The IANA Stewardship Transition Coordination Group (ICG) will be holding its next face-to-face meeting on Thursday 18 June and Friday 19 June from 09:00 – 17:00 in Buenos Aires. (Time zone conversions here: Day 1 – http://bit.ly/1SU4gwy, Day 2 – http://bit.ly/1dcNk3v).

CWG-Stewardship

Following the closure of the Cross Community Working Group to Develop an IANA Stewardship Transition Proposal on Naming Related Functions (CWG-Stewardship) general public comment period on 20 May (with comments by those relying on translations of the proposal having a closing date of 26 May), the ICANN CWG-Stewardship staff support has compiled the comments into the following key synthesis documents:

As part of its globalization strategy, ICANN established an Asia Pacific Hub in Singapore in August 2013, to better serve its regional stakeholders.

To further such globalization objectives, the ICANN Board has approved that the Singapore office will be moving into a larger space in FY16. The staff have identified and evaluated the location and cost of a suitable office facility. The targeted move-in date is 1 October 2015.
